- ★ ★ ★ ★ ★This place is amazing. The seclusion is perfect for a real getaway. The cabin had everything that we needed. The owners were wonderful to deal with. The recommendations in the area were helpful. The hot tub was very nice, they sky was polluted with gorgeous beautiful stars. We couldn't have asked for anything better, simply perfect getaway. - ★ ★ ★ ★ ★With information and a souvenir shop on the first level and a museum on the second level, the converted depot (still an Amtrak stop though not a full station) provides an excellent introduction to Thurmond's past and present. The ranger had a detailed knowledge and understanding of the town's history, told his stories in an engaging way, and provided helpful tips about visiting the town and surrounding area. The museum includes several exhibits on railroad operations and the town's social history. If you plan to explore more "ghost towns" in the area, it's useful to check in with the ranger here to find out which ones are accessible during your visit. - ★ ★ ★ ★ ★I have always had a great experience with the funeral home and Cemetery. I've known them for many many years and I think it's one of the few actual family owned funeral home and Cemetery combinations in southern West Virginia? I no longer live in the area but have family in the area and travel there often and Unfortunately had to use their services several times, these women that run the funeral home and the cemetery are the best. I believe the owner also lives in the same town which gives it great local and invested interest in the community, nothing but great things to say about these people for the cemetery and the funeral home.
